THC or CBD?
Medicinal cannabis users are exposed to two main terms: THC and CBD, which describe the active substances that we are familiar with in the plant.
While these two substances belong to the same family of active substances called cannabinoids, in actual fact each of these has a different effect on the body.
THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol as it is known in the biological world, is the main component in the cannabis plant, which brings about a change in the state of awareness, or in simpler terms, causes a high. This substance was first identified in 1964 by Prof. Rafael Meshulam and his colleagues from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The human body contains two receptors to which THC attaches. The CB1 receptors are generally found in the central nervous system while CB2 receptors are generally located in the cells of the immune system. These receptors are not only open to THC derived from the plant, but also to endocannabinoids, which are components that the body produces naturally.
The majority of the medicinal influences of the cannabis plant is attributed to THC, including pain relief, relaxation,
stimulating the appetite, assisting in falling asleep amongst insomnia sufferers, and in reducing nausea.
CBD, or Cannabidiol, is different from THC in one major aspect: It has no effect on the state of awareness in the human body. In other words, it does not bring on a high amongst users.
This component in the plant was also identified by Prof. Meshulam and his colleagues, but various studies regarding the influence of CBD on the human body have only been conducted in recent years.
These studies indicate that this component assists the body in healing inflammations and even prevents the formation of a chemical that causes inflammation. CBD prevents the spread of cancerous growths, including breast cancer, and assists the body in identifying the existence of the cells and in eradicating them without affecting healthy cells. Furthermore, CBD reduces convulsions, reduces pain, alleviates sleep disorders, and reduces nausea and vomiting.
The various species of the cannabis plant, used by Cannabliss, contain various doses of both these components, including species that contain only one of the two components.
